Leinster Under 16 Strokeplay: Dubs prosper in Drogheda showpiece

It was a memorable day for Dublin players at the Leinster Under 16 strokeplay in McBride on Saturday. Following the teams success on Friday, the individual event proved just as successful. In the Boys 14-15 section, Dublin players occupied the top 3 places with Ross O’Reilly – the Dublin Under 16 Strokeplay champ winning by three shots to march towards a remarkable treble. Ross won by three shots from his Dublin teammate Ciaran Gregan with Long Meadows Evan Doyle also finishing on the same score. Gregan shot a 46 in his second round and there was a great tussle between O’Reilly and Doyle before the Old County man pulled away over the closing holes.
Craig Hennessey from the Long Meadows club also managed third place in the Boys 10-13 section.
In the Girls event, Lucan’s Aoife Mahon took the 10-13 prize and her clubmate Molly McCarthy finished runner up in the 14-15 section. Attention will now turn to the All Ireland finals in Navan on August 23rd and 24th, on this evidence plenty of reason for optimisum for these championships. Congrats to the Dublin Under 16 management team for all the work they have put in preparing the players for these championships.
