Our ladies class 1 final took place last night 6th July in Old Co and the holders Lucan regained their title with a power packed display.RGSC runners up last year and looking to avenge that defeat needed a good start to unnerve the Lucan team. In the early exchanges RGSC were looking confident but as the games progressed the champions took control and with Philo Condron not missing any putts she and Siobhan McDonnell got Lucans first point defeating a gallant Siobhan Keeley & Glenda Hoey on the 16th. The next point arrived almost immediately and when Lucan took the last foursomes it left them 3 nil up with 6 singles to play for.
The singles were very close over the early holes but like the foursomes Lucan took control and with recently crowned Dublin inter stroke play champion Evelyn O Gorman winning the no 1 singles RGSC were facing a daunting task. Maraid O Brian was playing very well in her singles and when she got it to dormie 5 the cup was almost secured. She hit a great shot to the 14th and thus eventually brought victory to fine Lucan team. Although disappointed RGSC are close to getting the victory they crave and will be hoping to step up next year well done girls.
We had the presentation of the cup and medals in the clubhouse and both captains Mick & Marise praised their teams efforts throughout the campaign. They also praised the Old Co club for not alone hosting the final but the top class condition of their course.
Our thanks to Old Co for taking the final and the use of their facilities which were first class on the night. Well done to Mark Millar on his first year in charge of the leagues and our thanks to all who supported the final particularly from clubs who took part in the leagues great to see. Hopefully next year we can increase the number of teams taking part and also have a class 2 section which didn’t take place this year.
