Dublin Leagues: Gents Juniors: Lucan complete Magnificent Seven

The Gets Juniors final took place in Long Meadows and pitted Lucan against CPM. Lucan are no strangers to playing in this final and were chasing a seventh succesive title, for CPM it was their 1st foray into the final and it was expected to be a close affair as there was little to choose between the teams when they met in the group stages.
A large crowd from both sides assembled in the Ballyfermot venue in anticipation of a classic final. The doubles gave though strong signs how the final would unfold as Lucan lead 2-1, it was the manner of the wins for Lucan that really showed their intent winning one of them on the 12th and the other on the 16th whilst CPM won the final doubles on the last. CPM needed a strong showing in the singles, but it never happened, although Lucan had been there many times before they had much more hunger than their neighbours and they outplayed the Clondalkin guys to win the opening three singles and in the process got to the magic five points they needed. So the Lucan team of Jay Condron, David Lee, Alan Doyle, Jack King,  Ted Flynn, Terry O’Shaugnessy  Micky Joe Maher &  Stephen Needham  once again proved to be the strongest in the county and on this evidence few would bet on them winning an eight title in 2015. The win too completed a clean sweep in the Gents Division for Lucan, who ended up winning four of the Adult encounters.
The County Board would like to thank all the teams who took part in the leagues, the co-operation of the team captains / managers  in ensuring they ran so smoothly. We would also like to thank Portmarnock, RGSC, Ierne, Glenville and Long Meadows for hosting the finals. A special thanks once again to Breda Boyle who once again added the responsibility of League Secretary to her portfolio as competition secretary.
The Under 16 leagues were won by Portmarnock with Long Meadows finishing as runner’s up. Well done to all our league champions 2014.
