Dublin Ladies Stroke Play

The ladies stroke play sponsored by Eamonn Birchall took place today in Lucan.First out were the seniors and after the first round the holder Ger Ward had a commanding lead of 6 shots. Her nearest challengers were Glenda Hoey and Siobhan Keeley. The Lucan course was not giving much away regards birdies but in the second round Siobhan shot a splendid 50 to finish on 105 for the day.Glenda faded off the pace in the second round but still had a fine performance and Linda Thomson also had a decent performance in her new surroundings.Ger was to prove what a great competitor she is and shot a steady 50 to add to her opening 49 to secure victory for the 6th year in a row.
The inter ladies was a keenly fought battle and after the 1st round Evelyn O Gorman was a shot clear of Siobhan McDonnell with a host of players just behind them. Siobhan playing in front of Evelyn shot a total of 121 and on the 18th Evelyn 1 shot clear hit a great shot and the 2 putt par left her a worthy winner.
The junior ladies gave us the closest finish and the leader after the first round was the local lady captain Dora Keane. Patricia Anderson improved greatly in the second round and eventually we had a playoff between her and Dora. The playoff over Lucan’s daunting last 3 holes was to prove fascinating with Dora just missing her birdie putt on 16. Trish was out the back and took 5 to give Dora 2 shot lead. The 17th will live long in Dora’s memory when she pitched to 5 feet,Trish salvaged a great par but when Dora rolled in her putt the title was within her grasp. She had a solid par on 18 and proved a popular winner.
