The senior inter counties took place in Castletown on Sunday 16th August and after the wins for our under 16’s and inter gents,we anticipated a podium finish for both our teams. The ladies started proceedings and after a difficult start they came alive on the back 9 and shot -10 to trail their old rivals Kildare by 3 shots after the scotch foursomes. The gents stated their scotch foursomes and after some early birdie misses they got rolling and posted a fine -27.The ladies set out on the singles and were steadily making inroads into the lilywhites advantage. When Kildare finished their total stood at -10 and our ladies were to reach that total with 3 players left on the course. After a few anxious holes the nerves held out and our final tally was -12 to secure first place.Well done to Siobhan,Glenda, Ger,Sheelagh,Maree and Linda. The gents total of -27 left them behind Meath on -28 and despite a few players not hitting top form on the front 9 we got it together somewhat on the back 9 to eventually reach -58.This total looked a winning score for a long period of time however after a strong front 9 Westmeath had a barrage of birdies and when the final putt was sank they had reached -61.Well done to them and hard luck to our lads for the great effort put in, we move on and concentrate our efforts for Douglas where both out teams compete for the National Inter Counties.
