DUBLIN COUNTY BOARD LADIES STROKEPLAY FINALS

The Portmarnock Pitch and Putt Club lived up to its challenging nature as the Ladies Dublin Strokeplay Finals took place this morning.

Out in the very first two ball, fireworks were expected as last years holder Ger Ward faced of with Dublin Matchplay Champion Glenda Hoey.

Ger was to take the early lead with a fine 52 which was matched by Iernes Helen Greagsbey and Shandon’s Maree O’Toole. Glenda was just one stroke behind as they set out on their final 18.

Maree and Helen couldn’t keep their scoring going and it came down to the opening duo to leave the pack chasing with Glenda Hoey firing a 2nd round 51 to take the title by a single stroke from her playing partner Ger Ward.

A huge congratulations to Glenda who holds both County Championships at this time.

In the Intermediate grades the scoring was just as good early on with Tracey Smith of Lucan and Suzanne Jordan of Portmarnock both shooting 1 under par 53’s. This gave them a 6 stroke advantage over the field as they set out on their 2nd round.

This time though, the Portmarnock home support were to find victory as Suzanne put in another very solid round of 56 to take the title on 109. Tracey was to push her all the way though but would ultimately come up a couple shy on 111 as Suzanne took victory by 2 shots.

The Junior Ladies was also to be a joyous occasion for the home club despite the 1st round efforts of Glenville duo Eilish Benton & Anne Flynn who held a slender one stroke advantage over Portmarnocks Ann-Marie Fitzpatrick.

Ann-Marie though was to replicate her earlier score and take the Junior title by 4 strokes on 130 in what became a 1-2-3 for the host club as Eileen Fornan came in 2nd and Pauline Meehan in 3rd position.

A huge thank to all the ladies taking part on such a challenging course. We hope to see many entries throughout the season in all competitions.
