The final of the inter league took place in Portmarnock last night between Lucan and CPM. Lucan began strongly and won the 3 foursomes to take control of the match. The top matches would now prove vital to CPM and when all matches reached the turn it was very much game on.In the 1st game Barry Gorey was proving what a top player he is and defeated Dave Hayden on the !st tie hole. With Conor Gorey and Sean McDonnell also winning the vibes in the Lucan camp were of defeat looming large. When Dean Reid beat Gerry Ward, CPM were looking the more likely winners. The 4th match out was to prove vital it was nip and tuck between Lucan’s Tony Gallagher and CPM’s Andy o Donohue. The match went to 19th and when Andy rolled in the vital putt CPM had regained the title they won 2 years ago.The come back was complete, CPM were worthy winners and Lucan gallant losers in their quest to retain the title.
The real winner last night was the Portmarnock club who gave the players greens of the highest quality fit for any championship level. To the supporters of both teams well done and to Portmarnock many thanks for hosting this final. We now move on to the junior final in RGSC 30th July between Old CO and Lucan. The Lucan team are chasing their 6th win in a row however a strong Old Co team will not be the mood to roll over,a top class match should ensue hope to see you there.
