The Dublin Gents Inters put in a stunning performance to land the Leinster Inter County title in Royal Meath on Saturday by an impressive 18 shots.
The Inter Counties were due to take place on 10thAugust in Castletown but were postponed due to inclement weather, but no such problems on Saturday in bright sunshine, the guys delivered a dominant performance to beat Kilkenny into second place.
In the doubles all three were under par with with David Horan and Barry Gorey the lowest scorers on 45. Barry starting the day with a nice hole in one on the first hole! Gareth and Lennon were -3 after 4 and Tom and Paddy started solidly to give us a dream start overall. 45, 49 & 50 being our total return.
David was again the top scorer with a 45 in his singles but both Lennon Blake and Gareth Walsh broke 50 comfortably to add to the impressive total. Two 51’s and a 56 meant we posted an impressive -44 in total.
We were out first, which meant we didn’t know how good a score we had but as the day progressed it became clearer and clearer that it was a great score and a score that nobody could catch in the end.
A brilliant performance by the lads but the respect they had for the Jersey, the course and the competition was even more impressive. A super team spirit completes this great team.
They now face Cork and fight for the National Championship with the NEC providing a National platform for the Intermediate grade for the first time. The lads are relishing the prospect of the match with the impressive 5 in a row Cork Inters in a few weeks time. It should be a cracker.
