The senior gentsĀ final took place in Lucan on Tuesday night. Loughlinstown were back in the final after defeat to Lucan in Ierne last year whilst Erins Isle were looking to bridge a gap back to 1979 since their last win.
The early stages of the foursomes saw Erins Isle go 2up in match 1 and 3. However it was all change on the back nine as Loughlinstown hit top gear and turned all three matches in their favour to lead 3-0 after the foursomes.
Erins Isle now needed five of the six singles and despite their pedigree this was always going to be a tough ask against a quality Loughlinstown side including recently crowned Leinster champion Hubert Kelly. Mark Millar gave the men from the Isle’s the perfect start with a win. Hubert was in the winners circle as well but it was Gary Healy who chipped in on the 17th whilst 2up who won the crucial 5 point and ensured the trophy was heading down the N11 to the commons Road. Loughlinstown have been the standout team and all their players are hitting top form at the same time, however Erins Isle put in a great effort and were worthy finalists. They can take solace from the fact that Loughlinstown bounced back from defeat last year to win it.
Thanks to the Lucan club for hosting the final on the eve of the Dublin Strokeplay and to the large band of supporters who came out to support the final. Thanks as well to league secretary Mark Millar who was disappointed at the end of the night can be proud of running an excellent Dublin leagues in 2015.
