JR Crangle wins Dublin Co. Board John Smith Scr Cup

Thanks to everyone who turned up and supported the John Smith Scratch Cup today. We very much appreciated it. The home club supported us with 36 entries or so and the Dublin Gents Inter and Senior Inter County teams came out in force with several winning prizes, which is a good sign for the weekend. We also had players from Tipperary, Louth and Meath – thanks all.

Old County provided us a wonderful course and thanks indeed to your committee and members for allowing us to use your club this weekend.

The weather was kind and the day ran smoothly. Scores started to come in around midday. Darren O Reilly and Junior Smith were out early and delivered scores of 102 which was an indication of how tough it was out there. That said, Karl Murphy and Skinner Malone came in shortly after with great scores of 92 which showed what was possible. However not many reached these heights with the overall cut falling at 100.

JR Crangle was out in the last three ball and ultimately came in with 91 after superb shot making in the wind to take the overall lead.

Chris Gallagher, Jason Larkin, Kevin Berminghan, Eamon Gibney, Julian Kelly, John Lawlor, Liam O Reilly, Stephen Murray and Stephen Keating in the chasing pack for the playoff.

Julian got to -7 in the playoffs before falling back but nobody really applied the necessary pressure to JR – Indeed even with an uncharacteristic double bogey on the 12th, he settled back in and saw off the opposition to win the John Smith Scratch Cup again.

JR finished on -24. Chris Gallagher finished on -22 with a superb 46 to claim 2nd place and a brilliant chip in on the last for Karl Murphy got him 3rd. Jason Larkin claimed the last 18 prize with a score of 47.

Stephen Keating’s 99 saw him claim the Inter prize. Fergal Power of Lucan claimed the Junior prize with 121 and there was further home success in the ladies category with Vera Glennon of Old County claiming the prize with a super 113.

Well done to all the winners and thanks for the support. Thanks again to Old County. Until next year…….
